Author Profile

Derek du Toit has worked across information technology, management consulting, information management, and the study of complex systems, before later teaching critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving in the private sector.

For more than fifteen years he has written on animal welfare, animal rights, breeding ethics, and breed-specific legislation.

In I Am Not an Animal, he brings together decades of experience in systems thinking, critical inquiry, and animal ethics to explore one of humanity's most enduring assumptions: that humans occupy a fundamentally separate and superior place in the natural world. Drawing on philosophy, science, and psychology, the book asks what follows when that assumption is critically examined.
